AppMaker is an application for generating the user interface, and the source code behind it, for a Macintosh application, an OpenDoc part editor, or a Java applet. AppMaker saves development time and cuts drudgery by letting you create menus, windows, dialogs, and alerts just by clicking and dragging to arrange what you want on the screen. With one command, AppMaker automatically generates the source code for the user interface you've designed. AppMaker generates code and resources for procedural C or for C++ using PowerPlant or TCL, or using ODF (the OpenDoc Development Framework). AppMaker also supports the NeoAccess and OOFILE object I/O libraries and has preliminary support for Java.
This folder contains several files and folders in addition to this Read Me First document: Demo AppMaker, AppMaker Prefs, AppMaker Interface, Stationery, Languages, and Examples. These files are stored in a StuffIt archive. You will need StuffIt or an equivalent to extract the files and folders.
Demo AppMaker is a fully functioning version of AppMaker with the limitation that it can't save files, and the generated code can't be compiled or linked because the library routines that come with the full AppMaker application are not included. The AppMaker Prefs and AppMaker Interface files are files needed to run Demo AppMaker.
The Stationery file lets you easily create a new AppMaker document with standard contents including Apple, File, and Edit menus, a Main Window, etc.
The Languages folder contains modules for many of the languages that AppMaker currently supports. When you Generate code you choose a language from this folder. The full version of AppMaker also has language modules for ODF (the OpenDoc Development Framework) and for Pascal.
The Examples folder contains several example AppMaker documents. It also contains a folder of generated code and pre-built applications using PowerPlant, Procedural C, TCL, and Java. To save space on the archive we have omitted PPC versions of these applications.
These examples show many of the user interface elements you can create and arrange in AppMaker. They were created in just a few minutes of pointing and clicking. AppMaker then generated complete, ready-to-run source code that was compiled and linked with AppMaker library routines. By exploring these examples, you'll see many of the user interface elements you can create in AppMaker quickly and intuitively without any programming. The programmer has only to program the functions behind the user interface, not the menus, scroll bars, buttons, and other visible elements.
All of these demo files can be copied and used by you or others to evaluate the AppMaker application.
